A nation of immigrants?

An important letter from our founder:

My Fellow Americans,

The American Immigrant must fulfill a unique responsibility required of no other immigrant on Earth.

For 250 years, generations of Americans have tirelessly built this nation’s neighborhoods, staffed her schools, furthered her business enterprises, and protected the American way of life. A smaller percentage of Americans have even served in America’s Armed Forces, guaranteeing peace and prosperity at home and in foreign lands.

Americans even welcome the foreigner — at rates over and above any other nation by comparison.

In all these years, foreigners have benefited from the unparalleled bravery, innovation, and generosity of Americans: Americans disproportionately defend the borders of others, respond to international disasters, guarantee the world’s currency, protect international trade routes, contribute medical and technological breakthroughs, and more.

While peoples move from country to country every day, ALL would rather immigrate to America.

American Immigrants must therefore fully embrace the proud traditions of American Greatness graciously offered to them, enjoin only the elements of their former cultures compatible with building that Greatness, and thereby offer their very lives to the Nation upon which the rest of the world depends.

NO IMMIGRANT IN ANY OTHER NATION BEARS THIS RESPONSIBILITY.

2nd Generation Americans, the Americans born of immigrant parents, must learn to see themselves as the first-fruits of their family’s great American heritage. Let these Americans be quick to correct those who say that — because of their immigrant descent — these Americans must show special deference to foreign nationals.

American Immigrants DESCEND from elsewhere, but must ASCEND as Americans.

Never turning back and forsaking all others, 2nd Generation Americans must set their hands to the plow on building a American future for themselves, their children, and their fellow American countrymen.
